Deddeda Stemler is an award-winning photographer based in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, on Vancouver Island where she loves to paraglide, scuba dive, hike, camp, snowboard, and surf. Deddeda’s photojournalism career began after she completed her professional diploma in Photojournalism and Journalism from the Western Academy of Photography in 2001. Upon graduation, she immediately worked at daily newspapers until April 2005. She now freelances full-time. Her Associated Press images have been published in major magazines, newspapers, websites, and television broadcasts worldwide such as CNN, MSNBC, Time, New York Times and Discovery. Print clients include Scientific American, Surfer, Canadian Living, Cottage, Acoustic Guitar, CLEO, Sea Kayaker, Penguin Eggs, Photo Life, Globe and Mail, National Post, Toronto Star, Seattle Times, Washington Post, San Francisco Chronicle, and the Vancouver Sun. Deddeda also has a B.A. in Sociology with a Concentration in Criminology from the University of Calgary. She has traveled to Thailand, Nepal, India, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, Dominican Republic, the Arctic, the Cook Islands, Scotland, Spain, Peru, Chile, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and France.
